Continuing duties and things

We have spent the last little while continuing with chores - the growth has slowed down finally and the early part of autumn has given us lovely sunny days with cooler starts and finishes. The squirrels have returned to munch their way through as many walnuts they can. They are really a pest, but so cute to watch. They chase each other round and round the tree trunk of our giant walnut tree then sit busily gnawing away on the green out she'll of the walnuts. You would not believe the mess they make. We stayed a night with John and Barbara Hill last week over in Eastcourt. Their nearest town is Malmsbury which is very pretty and has the ruins of a giant abbey. Part of the structure was miraculously not destroyed in the dissolution of the 1600's and still operates as the local church. In this area also is the white chalk hills which have carvings of the famous horse that sits amongst the green pasture so you can see it for miles. It is quite cryptic, but well tended and there was a guy from the National Trust there clipping back the edges of grass so you could see the white chalk. Below the hill was a platform which is where they say St George slew his dragon and because the blood of the dragon was poisonous and
